Happy Earth Day everybody! Sorry for not posting in a while. Today, school is closed for me in honor of this special day. Remember to take extra care of the planet. Appreciate the beauty of nature!
You can plant a tree, ride a bike instead of a car, compost waste, recycle, and more to help the planet! Google has made several new logos that show up in each new tab or each time you reload. I will be showing all of them.
They have one to highlight each of Earth's five major biomes: tundra, forest, grasslands, desert, and coral reefs.
The one above shows a polar bear in the Arctic tundra.
This one shows a fox in the forest.
An elephant in the grasslands.
There is a tortoise in the desert next to cactuses.
Finally, the one above shows a giant octopus under the ocean next to a coral reef.
Fun Facts About Earth Day
- Scientists say that the Earth is over 4.5 billion years old, but Earth Day has only been around for 46.
- According to the Duke University Center for Sustainability and Commerce (https://center.sustainability.duke.edu/resources/green-facts-consumers/how-much-do-we-waste-daily), about 55% of 220 million tons of waste each year in the U.S. ends up in landfills. Try to reduce your impact by sorting out what waste goes where. Compost food scraps, and if not, try vermicomposting, which uses worms!
- After a massive 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, Earth Day was started as a day to focus on the environment and protect it. (To learn more about Earth Day's history, go to the official website: http://www.earthday.org/about/the-history-of-earth-day/)
- To celebrate Earth Day, the popular online game and app "Agar.io" has a free limited time only Earth Day skin! Grab it now so you can spread Earth Day awareness!
Overall, try to do something nice for the Earth today. It can be as simple as recycling a water bottle, or even something like planting a tree! I hope you can help make the world a better place.
